Storms

When I was a child I really enjoyed storm watching. From a distance of course! And I was always a bit nervous but also excited. Today I'm still attracted to watching the darkening clouds and lightning bolts race across the sky. I was fascinated with sheet lightning as I liked to see how bright the sky would light up and count how many seconds passed until I heard the rumble of thunder.
Storms often are a fantastic subject for artists and I'm not the first nor will be the last artist to paint lightning.
A couple weeks ago I had asked my class what they would like to paint next. One of my youngest art students asked to paint lightning so we had a couple interesting sessions together. She is a talented 8 year old and has been painting for a couple months. I admit I was concerned because painting lightning is no easy feat! I could see she did struggle quite a bit through her art project but not once did she give up. She was always smiling too! She was ever optimistic and happily worked through the process. Proudly she took her finished art piece home cherishing the outcome regardless of how it looked!
I am always encouraged by this student's sunny outlook to life. She inspires me to work through my art too. When we face daunting tasks or get overwhelmed by our struggles, we should take on the carefree attitude of my student... be happy during the effort of moving through the difficulty and always, always keep that smile on your face.
Even though life may seem stormy at times remember it is much nicer to pass through the storm with a good attitude and bright smile.
In appreciation of my student's joy, this finished 11”x14” oil painting is now added to my website and offered for sale with or without its gold frame.
